Good PD

This year we have a new superintendent.  The students had a four day weekend.  The teachers in our district had professional development day.  It was not our typical professional day where we gather in a large room listening to a speaker for a few hours, learn some great things, but have difficulty finding the time to go implement what we were taught.  Today we were given permissiont to determine what we needed for professional development and then fill out a short survey giving feedback and sharing what we did.

For me it was great because I was able to meet up with 2 of the 6 fifth grade writing teachers in the district.  It was great to have coffee and bagels and create teaching points for our next If then… writing units.  In the afternoon I met with my fifth grade team to plan our next reading unit. It was great,no stress and we felt we are ahead of the game. Great day!

We do appreciate days with meaningful collaboration.

There is nothing like having time to collaborate on work that you can take directly back to the classroom.

So nice to be able to take charge of your own PD. So many administrators don’t feel they can trust techers to be productive or know what they need. I applaud your superintendent.
