Empty Houses

They stand alone, isolated in the midst of bulldozers leveling nearby land for new development.

Curtains blow in the windowless openings.

Front porches are crumbling as a lonely wooden stool sits perched waiting for a visitor.

A home once filled with the smells of Thanksgiving feasts.

Babies once crawling, toddling, laughing and crying.

Adolescents who became adults left this home for a new life, shutting the door behind them.

A home filled with memories, now stands alone, empty.

It sits forlorn on the abandoned lot, distant memories forever lost.

Sad. I hope this lonely house finds new owners soon.

I have seen all of my family homes torn down. We are in a society of throw away and replace. It is too bad.
