Sand so white

Felt like powder

Time spent at the beach

Visiting my sister

Spirits are bright

Visibly showing exhaustion and weariness from the chemo

A text message from my daughter in Boston:

I’m okay. Checking in on everyone I know.

Alarm sounds in my head.

Something must be going on in the world.

I grab my phone and see there has been an explosion.

At the last mile dedicated to the victims of Sandy Hook

Words escape me.
